چکیده

This paper presents a new scalable buffer-management scheme for IP Differentiated Services. The scheme consists of a Differentiated Random Drop (DRD) algorithm using feedback from a virtual scheduler. DRD choses a queue to perform an early packet drop to avoid congestion according to a specific probability function. First it will be shown that DRD in conjunction with first-come firstserved scheduling is able to support relative service differentiation. The virtual scheduler is introduced to enable service differentiation in terms of bandwidth and delay at the same time. A virtual scheduler runs in parallel to the real scheduler and maintains virtual queue lengths that are being used by the congestion avoidance scheme as a feedback for packet drop decisions. Scheduling packets for transmission is performed by the real scheduler only. Keywords— Quality-of-Service, Differentiated Services, Relative Service Differentiation, Bandwidth and Delay Guarantees

Fair bandwidth sharing and delay differentiation: Joint packet scheduling with buffer management

Packet delay and bandwidth are two important metrics for measuring quality of service (QoS) of Internet services. Traditionally, packet delay differentiation and fair bandwidth sharing are studied separately. In this paper, we first propose a generalized model for providing fair bandwidth sharing with delay differentiation, namely FBS-DD, at the same time. It essentially aims to provide multi-d...

An Efficient Handoff and Buffer Management Scheme to Minimize Packet Loss Rate through Check-Point Retransmission in WiMAX 16m Networks

IEEE 802.16m standard redefined with many improvements on IEEE 802.16e standard to provide the best connectivity and to perform the error-free data transmission. In this paper we propose a buffer management system to reduce the packet loss rate during WiMax Communication where the internetworking involves designated distress regarding buffer range and traffic management. We evident that our pro...

A New Buffer Management Scheme for Multimedia Terminals in Broadband Satellite Networks

In this paper, we propose a novel Head of Line Priority Cell Discard (HoL-PCD) buffer management mechanism at the earth terminal buffers of broadband satellite networks, that preserves QoS for compliant traffic at the expense of non compliant traffic, and improves the overall delay performance of the network. Our simulation model includes a GEO satellite with onboard bandwidth scheduler, with m...

Enhancement of Video Streaming QoS with Active Buffer Management in Wireless Environments

With the emergence of high-speed wireless cellular networks, such as High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) or WiMAX, new services with a high bandwidth demand have been introduced. One example is non-interactive video streaming. In contrast to wireline networks, the characteristics of wireless links, such as a time-varying bandwidth and the trade-off between delay and reliability, impose pr...
